The Japanese word shiatsu (shi=finger,
atsu = pressure) means pressure from the fingers.
In a sense it is like acupuncture without the needles.
Shiatsu is a method of massage used to improve
circulation, stimulate nerves, stimulate and balance
energy flow through the meridians and improve metabolism.
It is also used as an aid in soothing the nervous
system and can be effective in relieving headaches,
fatigue, insomnia, nervous tension, constipation
and sore and stiff muscles. It can also aid in the
treatment of high blood pressure.
A shiatsu treatment can be administered to the
entire body to restore complete harmony or to specific
areas for localized needs. By applying pressure
to the points, the natural recuperative powers of
the body are generated, toxins are dispersed, muscles
are relaxed, circulation of blood and lymph fluid
are improved, energy is released or balanced, and
the body is revitalized.
