The Gyrotonic Expansion System®, (Gyrotonics),
is a modern form of exercise using Gyrokinesis®
as its basis. It is being referred to as “the
new wave of fitness”.
Gyrotonics was developed by a Hungarian man named
Juliu Horvath. His own experiences with injuries
and chronic pain led to this development. The system
incorporates the flexibility of yoga, the strength
of weight training, and the stretching benefits
of Pilates. It also incorporates principles from
dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai-chi.
Using a specially designed piece of equipment,
our certified trainers work one on one with the
client to guide them through a series of movements
that work major muscle groups in an integrated manner,
without impact. These movements emphasize placement
and alignment of the body. There is also specific
breathwork for each movement which facilitates cardiovascular/aerobic
stimulation. By altering the speed and intensity
of the breathwork the cardiovascular stimulation
can be increased from gentle to vigorous. Clients
twist, turn, bend and stretch using pulleys and
resistance tools to increase their strength, flexibility,
range of motion, coordination and endurance.
Since the system can be modified to all fitness
and ability levels, it is an appropriate form of
exercise for people of all age groups and abilities.
